The rules

How to play

Start on 501. Name footballers from the chosen club. Their league appearances knock points off your score. Find the checkout before everyone else.

Classic 501

Four steps to game shot

Play solo or pass one phone between up to six people. No accounts or setup are required.

1

Draw a club

Choose current, former or all Premier League clubs. The app randomly selects one club for the round.

2

Name a player

Take turns naming a footballer who made league appearances for that club. A footballer cannot be used twice in the round.

3

Drop points

The player's league appearances for that club come off your own score. More than 180 appearances is a miss and scores zero.

4

Check out

In Classic, the first person to finish between 0 and −10 wins. The app keeps every player's scorecard.

Use a hint

When a score is below 20, hold the hint button to see possible nationalities, years and totals without revealing names.

Fix a mistake

Added a guess to the wrong person's turn? Use Undo Last Turn to restore the previous scores and player.

Common questions

Before kick-off

Which appearances count?

The game uses a footballer's total domestic league appearances for the selected club, rather than cup or European appearances.

Can one person play?

Yes. Classic supports one to six players, and Checkout Mode and Daily Finish are built for solo play.

Does spelling need to be exact?

No. Search ignores accents, so names such as Édouard can also be found by typing Edouard.

What if a player is missing?

Use “Player missing or total incorrect?” during a game to prepare a report for The Football Finish.

Ready to throw?

The original game is free and works in your phone browser.
